Overview

Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Automation Tester with strong UFT (Unified Functional Testing) expertise to urgently take ownership of an existing test automation solution. We are looking for a hands-on specialist, who can independently investigate, reverse-engineer, and take control of the existing setup - with limited to no documentation or support available.

Key Responsibilities

• Take ownership of the existing UFT automation solution with immediate effect
• Independently review, investigate, and reverse-engineer the current implementation, including scripts, frameworks, object repositories, test data, and configurations
• Document the existing setup as it is understood, creating the handover material that was not previously provided
• Stabilise, maintain, and support the ongoing use of the automation suite for functional, regression, and API testing
• Identify and resolve any gaps, inconsistencies, or issues within the current framework.
• Execute, monitor, and maintain automated test scripts, ensuring reliable and accurate results.
• Liaise with internal stakeholders (QA, development, business teams) to understand testing priorities and ensure continuity of testing coverage.
• Provide recommendations for improving, optimising, or stabilising the automation framework going forward.
• Build internal knowledge/capability where possible, reducing reliance on a single resource in future

Required Skills

• Strong, hands-on experience with UFT (Unified Functional Testing) - formerly QuickTest Professional (QTP), an OpenText tool used for functional, regression, and API test automation
• Proven ability to review, interpret, and take ownership of an existing automation framework with little or no documentation/handover
• Strong troubleshooting and reverse-engineering skills - comfortable working things out independently under time pressure
• Solid understanding of automated testing principles: functional testing, regression testing, and API testing
• Experience with object repositories, VBScript (as used within UFT), test data management, and script maintenance
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain technical setups to non-technical stakeholders
• Self-starter who can work with minimal oversight and quickly get up to speed

Preferred Skills

• Experience with API testing tools/protocols (e.g., REST, SOAP, Postman)
• Familiarity with test management tools (e.g., Jira, ALM/Quality Center)
• Prior experience taking over “orphaned” or undocumented automation solutions
• Background in enterprise or regulated environments
