Job Description

Senior Web Developer – Adobe Edge Delivery Services (EDS)

Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and performance-driven Frontend Web Developer with specialized expertise in Adobe Edge Delivery Services (EDS) (formerly Project Franklin/Helix). In this role, you will lead the architecture, development, and optimization of our next-generation digital experiences. Unlike traditional CMS development, you will focus on building ultra-fast, lightweight, edge-rendered websites that maintain a perfect 100 score on Google PageSpeed Insights. The ideal candidate is a vanilla JavaScript purist who understands edge computing, document-based authoring workflows, and treats Core Web Vitals as a mission-critical metric.

Key Responsibilities

  • Block & Component Development: Design and develop highly reusable, semantic, and high-performance custom blocks and sections using vanilla JavaScript, HTML5, and modern CSS3.
  • Architecture & Scaffolding: Set up, scaffold, and configure new Adobe EDS projects utilizing the modern AEM boilerplate repository, managing .hlx project configurations, routing, rewrites, and config.yaml.
  • Content Authoring Integration: Bridge the gap between engineering and content creators by configuring and optimizing Document-Based Authoring (Google Docs / Microsoft Word/Adobe Document Authoring).
  • Performance Optimization: Take full ownership of site velocity. Manage the page-loading orchestration pipeline by optimizing eager, lazy, and delayed loading phases (loadEager, loadLazy, loadDelayed) and programmatic auto-blocking.
  • Edge Delivery & CDN Management: Work with edge network configurations (specifically Fastly or Cloudflare CDN), managing caching strategies, TTL tuning, and Edge-Side Includes (ESI) for dynamic content components.
  • Git-First Workflow: Oversee a seamless code deployment workflow utilizing GitHub integrations where pushes to production instantly sync directly to the edge with zero traditional build-pipeline wait times.
  • AEM Ecosystem Integration: Integrate edge-delivered web pages with broader Adobe environments, including AEM Assets, Adobe App Builder, and Adobe I/O Runtime APIs for headless functionalities.

Required Skills

  • Adobe EDS Expertise: 2+ years of hands-on experience building, testing, and launching live enterprise websites explicitly utilizing Adobe Edge Delivery Services (EDS) / Helix.
  • Vanilla Frontend Mastery: Expert-level knowledge of raw, native JavaScript (ES6+), semantic HTML5, and modern CSS3 (including CSS custom variables and advanced layout modules like Grid/Flexbox).
  • Framework De-escalation: Deep understanding of why traditional heavy frameworks (React, Angular, Vue) are decoupled from core EDS pages, with the ability to build complex interactivity without relying on heavy npm dependencies.
  • Core Web Vitals Obsession: Proven track record of optimizing websites to meet elite Lighthouse standards, specifically troubleshooting Largest Contentful Paint (LCP), Interaction to Next Paint (INP), and Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS).
  • Git/GitHub Workflows: Mastery of branch management, pull requests, automated formatting/linting, and managing code-to-content synchronization via GitHub Actions.
  • CMS Workflows: Familiarity with document-to-HTML transformation, Markdown parsing rules, and metadata structure tables within Google Workspace or MS Office.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience migrating traditional, heavy AEM Sites (HTL/Sightly, OSGi, Sling Models) over to a streamlined Adobe EDS architecture.
  • Understanding of SEO best practices, Open Graph schema configuration, and edge-side analytics injection.
  • Adobe certified credentials in AEM or Experience Platform ecosystems.
